Social media strategy: how to get started?
Because without a plan, you just keep posting whatever comes to mind. You have an Instagram account. A Facebook page. Maybe even a TikTok or LinkedIn profile. You post something every now and then: an achievement, a campaign, an atmospheric photo… But does it actually deliver results? If you’re honest: not really. And that’s normal. Without a strategy, social media often becomes a last-minute rush.
What exactly is a social media strategy? It’s not a thick book or some fancy document.
A good strategy simply answers these questions:
- Who do you want to reach?
- What do you want them to do?
- Where are they online?
- What do you have to say?
- And how often, when, and in what form?
What happens without a strategy?
- You post inconsistently and without direction
- You don’t know what works and what doesn’t
- You follow trends instead of your goals
- You waste time without results
In other words: you scroll, you post… and you hope. But hope is not a strategy.
What happens with a strategy?
- You know who you are reaching and why
- You plan ahead and work more efficiently
- Your content is goal-oriented and recognizable
- You generate leads, traffic, or engagement: whatever you want
- You can measure and improve results
And no, that doesn’t mean you have to post 5 times a week. It simply means: working in a structured way instead of just doing something randomly.
How do you get started? Simple. Start here:
- Define your target audience: Who are they? Where are they? What interests them?
- Choose goal(s): More reach? More traffic? More applications?
- Choose channels: Don’t be everywhere, but be where it works (👉 see our blog about TikTok for your business)
- Define content pillars: Which themes do you want to repeat?
- Develop a realistic plan: What are you going to post, when, and how often?
- Measure and adjust: See what works, and do more of that.
