Privacy Policy? Yes, people actually do read that.
Many people place ‘privacy policy’ as the last link in the footer. Done.
But did you know that such a policy is legally required and that it is best to actually have people read (and understand) it?
A good privacy policy is more than just a formality.
It is a clear signal to your website visitors:
“We handle your data with care.”
And that builds trust.
What exactly is a privacy policy?
It is a document in which you explain:
- Which data you collect (e.g. via contact forms, cookies, or tools)
- Why you collect that data
- What you do with it (and especially what you don’t do)
- How long you keep it
- Who has access to it
- How users can view their data or have it deleted
In short: transparency. That is what it is all about.
What information must it contain at a minimum?
- Company details (who is responsible?)
- Which personal data you collect
- For what purposes you use it
- Legal basis (e.g. consent or legitimate interest)
- How you secure data
- User rights (access, correction, objection…)
- Contact details for privacy questions
- Mention of cookies (or link to separate cookie policy)
👉 Combine this with a correct cookie declaration and cookie banner for a complete set.
Why it is good for your brand too.
A transparent privacy policy shows that you work professionally. And that you take your customers’ privacy seriously.
That builds trust, and trust leads to conversion.
