Marketing Bingo: How many clichés do you use?
Marketing is a discipline in itself, and the same goes for the language we use. Everyone wants to think outside the box, make an impact, and put the customer first. But let’s be honest… how often do you hear the same terms recur in presentations, pitches, and strategies? Time for a game of Marketing Bingo!
🧐 The biggest marketing clichés listed
Here is a list of the most used (and perhaps misused) marketing terms. How many do you recognize?
- Innovative – Because no one wants a boring campaign. But how often is something truly new?
- Impactful – Sounds nice, but how exactly do you measure that?
- Customer-centric – Because companies sometimes feel the need to emphasize that the customer is important. 😅
- Out-of-the-box – But within the safe lines, of course.
- Storytelling – We tell a story. Preferably no fairy tale.
- Best practice – Who actually determines what ‘best’ is?
- Agile marketing – Everything is flexible… until the customer provides feedback.
- Synergy – A fancy word to say that things fit together.
- Growth hacking – Or just smart marketing?
- Gamechanger – Is it a gamechanger, or just a good idea?
- Low-hanging fruit – Quick-fix opportunities, but are they really that easy?
- Customer journey – As if customers are taking an organized road trip.
- Building personas – Because you can’t do without fictional customer profiles.
- Omnichannel – Using multiple channels, but not always aligning them well with each other.
- Increasing engagement – In other words: how do we get more likes and comments?
- Big data – Having a lot of data is one thing, doing something useful with it is another.
- Content is king – But who is the queen then?
- Scalability – Sounds smart, but often just means: ‘we want to grow’.
- Deep dive – Diving deep into something, but often not further than the surface.
- Brand awareness – Because no one wants an ‘invisible’ brand.
- User experience – As if anyone wants a poor experience?
- SEO-friendly – Because Google is the boss.
- Data-driven – No gut feelings, just Excel sheets!
- Thought leadership – Because you can’t just say ‘expert’.
